As with other Indian Languages, Telugu literature follows or adapts many many Sanskrit words. With the advent of the Telugu script, many old Sanskrit and Dravidian words were also assimilated into the language. Telugu literature is predominantly poetry. Telugu Poets used to write in "kanda shaili" or "kavitrayam" form. There were many such poet laureates but only a few among them who were really remembered and cherished by people for generations. Kavi Sankar, Kavi Karnapura and Gona Budda Reddy are some among them. Kavi Sankar (12th Century) Kavi Karnapura was an outstanding Telugu poet born to Nanneswaramma and Chandramana in the village of Kota Kota, near Hindupur [Bhadrachalam]. He is best known for his highly philosophical poetry composed in the sangam language. Kavi Govinda Bhatta Reddy was a renowned poet born in a farmer's family.
